Paid Surveys In A Nutshell - How They Work

By TaSha Franklin

What are Paid Surveys
Paid Surveys is a marketing tool, used by research companies  to gather data in a particular geographic area  regarding opinions on certain retailers products, or services. If you perform a search for paid surveys in your search engine, you will find pages and pages of advertisements saying "Take A FREE Survey, Earn Cash". You will also find pages of reviews telling you that they're all scams, and then pages of reviews saying that they're legit. It can be quite confusing, and it's hard to know what to believe. The FACT is, you CAN make money filling out surveys online, whether or not it is a legitimate source of  income is for you to decide. In my opinion, I don't believe that paid surveys are a waste of time, I just don't see them as a source of full time income. I suppose maybe, if you signed up through several of these marketing companies, you might be able to make something resembling a part time income at best. Now, for those of you looking for something fun to do with your spare time, or a hobby, it can be a whole lot more rewarding than crossword puzzles.

How Paid Surveys Work
Most are free to join, and with some, once you've joined you automatically get entered in to win a number of different sweepstakes. To sign up, you usually have to answer a set of questions to create a profile. These questions tend to be a bit personal, and range from your marital status, to your gross income. All of which are designed to determine which surveys will fit you the best. Once your profile has been created, in most cases you will be emailed survey opportunities. With a few of these sites, you will have to login to your account before you will receive your surveys.  Most are based on a point system. With each survey you complete, you will earn a certain number of points. You can convert these points to cash or save them to buy more entries into the sweepstakes. Some also offer a chance to purchase merchandize or donate to charities. A few also offer points based on referrals. This means, if you refer someone to sign up, and they complete a survey, you get points. The kicker with most of these websites is the points to cash conversion. As a general rule of thumb, 1000 points converts to $10. Now you might be wondering how much each survey is worth. Well that varies from site to site. Some sites offer more points per survey, but only send you maybe two a week, while others offer less but send you several in a week. Also, you need to make sure and read the terms of service or the agreement. Find out what the minimum dollar amount is to cash out. Cash out minimums can range from $10 to $100. And some even charge a transaction fee depending on how you choose to receive your money.

In conclusion, be very careful when you're choosing a paid survey site. Do your homework, and read the reviews.  I've done a little homework myself. Below I've provided a list of FREE to join paid survey sites with some basic information. Have fun, and good luck!

MySurvey is the same as National Family Opinion. Surveys are easy to understand and typically pretty short. They can take anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes to complete. They use a point system, which transfers into dollars. You can use these points either to receive payment, $100 dollar minimum with a $1.50 processing fee, buy raffle tickets for prizes such as laptop computers, cash prizes of $1500, or a treadmill. You can also choose to purchase certain merchandize or donate your points/money to a charity. You must have a minimum of $10 or 1000 points to donate. Payments, once requested are very prompt.

SurveySavvy - A great referral system. You will receive 2 to 3 surveys a week and earn $1.00 - $3.00 for each survey completed. If you refer a friend and they complete a survey you get paid $2.00 for every survey completed, and also $1.00 for every survey completed by their referrals. If you have a lot of friends who might be interested, this is a great system.

NPD Online Research -  You do not get paid for each survey you complete, however you do get entered in to win $100 for that month each time you complete a survey. For instance if you get 2 surveys a week for 1 month, that's 8 entries to win. Typically they will reward $25,000 to $50,000 a month to their members. There is no limit to the amount of times you can win, and if you do win, they mail you a check. So to recap, approximately 200 to 500 people will win and receive a $100 check each month.

PineCone Research - This company specializes in product evaluation. They will send you one product approximately every two to three weeks. You will then test and try out the product. Then you answer a questionnaire on your computer which usually takes anywhere between 15 - 20 min to complete. Each completed evaluation earns you $5.00 which usually comes in the mail about 2 to 3 weeks later.

Mindfield is much like MySurvey, except you do not receive an email invitation for every survey, only the big ones. They pay between $3 -$5 per survey and also offer prizes. You'll need to log into your account at least once a week to see if you have any available surveys. Once you have earned $10 they will mail you a check.
